Funerals

No two people are the same, and therefor why should we accept the way we say goodbye to our loved ones at the end of their lives should be in a ‘one size fits all’ manner?

The day you say a final farewell to a loved one is no ordinary day and nor should it be.

As a Celebrant I am deeply committed to ensuring that each Ceremony is as individual as the person it is for.

In the comfort of your own home or other place of your choosing we will sit and talk about your loved one. I will firstly take down some basic information about the person who has died and then encourage you to share with me your stories, anecdotes and memories to help me truly capture the essence of your loved one. This will help me to make the ceremony truly personal, and many families find that talking about and sharing their memories about their loved one in this way can help them come to terms with their loss.

We will discuss what kind of ceremony you would like with regard to religious content. It can be non- religious or have some elements of religion included such as a hymn, a bible reading or a prayer, the choice is yours.

We will discuss if there will be family or friends who would like to speak or contribute in any way?

If you wish I can help you with choosing readings/poetry/music and anything else you would like included in the ceremony.

I will to work closely with you and your family so that I can create a ceremony which is personal and uplifting, respecting your beliefs and values and those of your loved one.

The ceremony will be written with care, reflecting back what you have told me and telling their life story weaved in with music, poetry and readings etc, giving a voice to the loss felt by those who loved them. Enabling you to share your memories and feelings with others as you say goodbye.
You will always see a draft copy before the day of the funeral so that you can ensure that you are completely happy with the content, any changes, additions or editing can be done at this point.

The ceremony will be delivered with compassion and sensitivity and will be both moving and memorable and at the end you will know that your loved one will have had the farewell you wanted and that they deserved.

During the whole process from the first meeting until after the funeral you will always be able to contact me either by telephone or e-mail if you want to discuss anything. We will work closely together to create a ceremony that you feel happy with and ensure everything run smoothly on the day.

I was fortunate enough to know of Susan when my Mum passed away in December. I hadn't thought about getting a celebrant, but I AM SO SO GLAD that I did. Worth absolutely every single penny. At such a sad time, to be able to write down everything you want to be said at a funeral service for someone so important, is quite unthinkable. My Mums service was beautiful and very personal, and that is all down to one lady... Susan Wood. Words cannot express the thanks you deserve for making my Mums funeral so special. Xx xx Lesley xx
